There are still a large number of women who do not screen regularly in the country and as a result of the high HIV rate many are highly at risk of cervical cancer. Many avoid prevention opportunities due to misunderstanding or cannot take them up if educated due to financial, transport or family barriers. The partnership formed between SBCCN, BMSF and Ministry of Health was aimed at increasing the number of clinics in the country able to provide screening and prevention for cervical cancer and basic breast screening at the same time. The impact of the partnerships is in its early stages but can already be seen in the high numbers of women attending some of the new clinics for screening and treatment.
